What is Optima’s Search for The Ultimate Streetcar?
JDP Motorsports has been competing in the Optima Batteries Search for the Ultimate Street Car series since it’s inception in 2014 and it has become one of our favorite series. Offering a variety of events that put our JDP development vehicles to the test. The series takes it’s competitors to iconic race tracks around the country, 7 in total, throughout the year.
Round 1: Las Vegas Motor Speedway, NV
Las Vegas Motor Speedway is always a fun venue to compete at and it’s where the OUSCI (Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational) is held in the final round of the season following the SEMA Show. Trying to beat the heat in the Nevada desert gives racers a challenge in all of the segments of the event. Talented driver and fierce competitor, Austin Barnes pulled off a first place finish in the GTS Class. Team JDP drive Jordan Priestley started off the year strong with a 2nd place finish in our JDP Built C7 GrandSport, “BERNICE” setting the tone for the beginning of the season.
Round 2: Daytona Int. Speedway, FL
Team JDP was, unfortunately, not able to attend the event at Daytona, however, a lot of the other competitors were there. Steve Kepler in his 2013 Nissan GT-R was able to take 1st place at this event. Kepler was given his invitation to Optima’s Ultimate Street Car Invitational at the end of the year. JDP cannot wait to see how Steve, his team, and his ride finish out the season.
Round 3: NCM Motorsports Park, KY
We always enjoy competing on the NCM Motorsports Park Road Course, A.K.A. the Corvette track in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Battling some issues on the newly installed dry sump system “BERNICE” and the team really pulled it together getting our 1st win in the GTS Class after a large number of podium finishes. Bernice with Jordan Priestley, JDP Motorsports President behind the wheel, this victory won our team invitation the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational this coming November at Las Vegas Motorspeedway.
Round 4: Pikes Peak Int. Raceway, CO
Pikes Peak International Raceway is a track that many of the competitors enjoy becuase of the scenery and staff. This years Round 4 of Optima was once again another great weekend in beautiful Fountain, Colorado. We sorted out some of the early issues with the ARE dry sump oil system on the C7 GrandSport and it performed flawlessly. BERNICE and Team Driver Jordan Priestley ended up in 2nd place in GTS Class, behind Austin Barnes in his 2010 Dodge Viper. The two competitors tied competitively with the difference in points coming down to the Design and Engineering segment. JDP Team Member Tony Scalici in his JDP built ZL-1 1LE drove great over the weekend and finished in the top of his GT class in 1st place.
Round 5: Road America, WI
JDP is very excited for round 5 of The Search for the Ultimate Street Car 2019. Round 5 will take competitors to legendary Road America, in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Jordan Priestley and his JDP Grand Sport C7 Corvette are currently sitting in 2nd place behind Steve Kepler and his GT-R. With a 17 point difference between Priestley and Kepler, JDP is heading to Wisconsin with hope of gaining as much ground as possible. Along with Jordan Priestley piloting “BERNICE” team member John Grow will be competing in his JDP 1200x equipped ZL-1 1LE, “LILITH”. Grow is currently sitting in 3rd place in the GT class, and team member Tony Scalici, also in a JDP built ZL-1 1LE, is sitting in 1st place. There will also be a new comer to the series, Bryan Reilly in his freshly finished JDP 900x Track Spec 6th Gen ZL1 Camaro! Stay tuned!
