Optima Ultimate Street Car Round 1 Las Vegas Motor Speedway 2019

Optima Ultimate Street Car Round 1 | Las Vegas Speedway, CA | March 16-17, 2019

JDP Motorsports entered Round 1 of the Optima Batteries Search for the Ultimate Street Car Series confident after our 2nd Place GTS Finish in the 2018 Regular Season and 2nd in GTS at the OUSCI. We didn’t change much on our 2017 C7 Grandsport Corvette but we did add a new brake package from Essex AP Racing, JDP Motorsports 2″ Headers by American Racing and a new Borla S-Type Axle-Back Exhaust. The level of competition in the USCA Series continues to increase and this season is going to be the toughest yet!

The event started off Saturday with the QA1 Autocross. The course was set up on the Outside Road Course and as usual Brian Mason put together a fun and challenging course!!! Jordan Priestley, Driver of the 2017 JDP Grandsport started the day off strong contending for a top 2 position in GTS for the morning session. We knew the competition was going to turn it up after lunch and try to knock us down. We ultimately dropped to 4th in GTS and 6th Overall for the Autocross Segment.

The Lingenfelter Design and Engineering segment is always a crap shoot and you never know where you’ll end up in a given weekend. We’ve done a lot of unique enhancements both performance and cosmetically over the last 2 years. We feel the car is one of if not the most developed C7 Corvette in the series and in the country. We ended up finishing in 27th Place in Design and Engineering which isn’t where we feel the car should place but that is the nature of the beast!

Next up was the LucasOil.TV Road Rally that typically takes us down the Las Vegas Strip. This year we were pleasantly surprised when we learned this year route took us north to a truck stop! We were able to get some sick rolling shots of Bernice and Lilith while having a little fun!

We headed into Sunday confident that we would have a solid shot at a top 3 in GTS. We typically do very well on the PowerStop Speed Stop and Falken Tires Hot Laps challenge. We run in the Expert group which is the last run group which means we didn’t go out onto the road course until 11AM for our first session. We decided to get our Speed Stop runs in early and we were the first car on the course. We battled back and forth for the top position and we felt confident we would end up on the podium. The afternoon session turned into a slug fest and we ended up 3rd in GTS and 5th Overall.

The Falken Tires Hot Lap Challenge is one of our favorite segments. This is where we show the horsepower and handling of our Grandsport. The morning session started off a little slow for us as JDP Driver, Jordan Priestley, got warmed up with the first road course event of the season. The car was working well but we need more bite off the corners. JJ from Ultimate Performance gave us some solid advice on the set up of our JRi Double Adjustable coilovers and we were able to grab the 2nd position in GTS and 3rd Overall!
